Our Story

In 2011, Laguna Honda Hospital had just opened three new buildings. Rabbi Nosson Potash was driving past the hospital when he spontaneously decided to pop in. Nosson asked if the Jewish residents there could use any help. It turned out - they did! That Friday, Nosson lead a Shabbat program for the LHH seniors.

Through this experience, Rabbi Potash realized that there was a need for Jewish engagement within the senior population living in nursing/housing facilities around San Francisco. And so, Community for Jewish Seniors (CJS) was born!

What started as an impromptu visit has developed into an organization with robust programming, a dedicated staff person, and a wonderful volunteer base.

We are passionate about the work we do and are committed to enriching the spiritual and cultural needs of our seniors.
